GCC Business and Finance: Research Team Wanted
Aamir A. Rehman, author of Dubai & Co: Global Strategies for Doing Business in the Gulf States (McGraw-Hill, 2007), is writing a second book related to business and finance matters of the Gulf Cooperative Council (GCC) nations and is seeking a team of part-time Research Assistants.
Research assistance provides an exciting opportunity for anyone with a passion for the region’s economic development to gain more in-depth knowledge of the field. The role will also provide researchers experience in strategic analysis, which can be highlighted in corporate or professional service firm interviews. This is an excellent opportunity for people interested in careers in consulting, management, academia, or corporate strategy.
Duties of researchers will include marshalling of macroeconomic data and commercial information; analysis of supporting evidence; drafting of research memos on assigned issues; and assistance in research and drafting of case studies. Strong research and analytical skills, as well as passion for the topic and commitment to the project, are crucial. Professional experience in banking, consulting, research, or related fields is preferred. Arabic-language skills are preferred but not required.
Frequent feedback will be provided, and the collaborative process employed will allow research assistants input into the conclusions of the book.
Compensation will be in lump sum for a comprehensive research memo, varying in amount (from $400 to $1,000 per comprehensive memo) depending on author’s requirements. Each memo will support a section of the study and team members will be acknowledged as contributing researchers when the book is completed.
To apply, please send a resume, 2-3 page writing sample, and 1-page statement of interest in the project to faisal.ghori @ rehmaninstitute.com. Candidates may be asked to complete a (paid) brief sample research assignment as part of the selection process.
For more on the author and his work, please see www.rehmaninstitute.com.
The deadline for applications is November 21. Candidates will be notified of next steps by November 28.
I just happened to pickup this book last week and to my own surprise finished it in a few sessions! I am very impressed by the writing style that Dr.Rehman (and other contributers) have employed consistently throughout the book. This coupled with the unbiased professional perspective into the opportunities and challenges that global enterprises can expect when deciding to pursue business in the region are the highlights of this seminal book on the region. I am very interested to contribute as a part time Research Assistant to develop the content for the next book that Dr.Rehman is working on. Please feel free to contact me if and when such opportunities arise.
